Florencio Ortega: Family Legacy

Florencio Ortega is a family-run venture with deep roots in cacao cultivation, spanning three generations. The business began in 2000, with a mission to support small-scale farmers by sourcing their cacao and opening doors to international markets. Driven by dedication and vision, Florencio achieved a major milestone in 2008 when he successfully exported cacao to Sweden and Switzerland—an achievement that set the stage for others to follow. Even after his passing in 2016, his influence lived on through the values he left behind.

In 2018, his daughter—an ambitious agricultural engineer with a strong sense of purpose—took the reins. Determined to honor her father's legacy, she focused on empowering local growers while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and sustainability.

Her work began to shine globally in 2021, when Jens Kamin, founder of Definite Chocolate, selected their cacao to craft his first bean-to-bar chocolate. This partnership showcased the distinct flavor of their beans and marked a turning point, opening up new opportunities for collaborations with other artisanal chocolatiers in 2022.
