Finca Elvesia: A Legacy of Swiss Roots and Dominican Cacao Excellence

At the close of the 19th century, a Swiss immigrant family established Finca Elvesia. Not long after, European chocolatiers recognized the remarkable quality of its cacao, prompting Swiss investors to fund a railway that connected the farm to the nearest port in Cano Hondo. Over the years, ownership of the farm has changed hands multiple times, but its cacao has consistently maintained its high standards.

Today, Finca Elvesia is in the capable hands of Ramón López, a native of El Cibao—the heartland of Dominican cacao. Ramón oversees the farm with deep knowledge and dedication.

Located in Hato Mayor and tucked into gently rolling hills, Finca Elvesia feels a world apart from the bustling beaches and tourist hubs of Punta Cana, even though it's less than 70 miles to the east. The farm sits in the agricultural community of El Valle and spans more than 150 hectares (around 370 acres) of fertile, productive land.
